Fun and Flirty Valentine’s Day Make Up Look!

Hello beautiful people!

Valentine’s Day is this weekend, and wether you’re celebrating with your sweetie, spending the night with your girlfriends or going on a first day, I have a look that will make you feel fabulous and wow whoever you’re with!

I wanted to create a look that was playful and flirty without being too glam, because then it can really suit any outing!
I went for a more natural eye look with some glitter and winged liner to add that flirty feel, with some really natural wispy lashes to play it up just a little bit more. I wanted my skin to be glowing and flushed, with a nice rosy matte lip which is transfer proof if you’re going to be doing any smooching this v-day!

For my complexion I used:
Rimmel Match Perfection foundation in the shade 010 porcelain
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Chantilly for my blemishes
Urban Decay Naked Skin concealer in Fair Neutral for under my eyes
Laura Mercier loose setting powder in translucent to set everything in place
Burberry Earthy Blush in No.7 to contour
Hourglass Ambient Bronzer in Bronze Light to bronze up my face
Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in fetching to add a really pretty flush to my cheeks
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone to add that glow I was going for on the high points of my face

For my eyes I used:
L’Oreal Brow Stylist Definer in Brunette to fill in my brows
Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani palette for shadows – I used baby all over the lid, with anaheim and punk through the crease and lower lash line, then I pressed a bit of pop glitter all over the lid to add some sparkle
Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper for my wings
CoverGirl Full Lash Bloom mascara for my top lashes
Clinique bottom lash mascara for the bottom lashes
I used some of the Tanya Burr Limited Edition false lashes that came in her advent calendar and unfortunately don’t have a name

Finally for lips I used the new Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip colour in the shade devotion which is a gorgeous dusty rose that just added the perfect pop of pink for this look!

I’m so happy with how this look turned out, and I’ll definitely be re-creating this on Sunday for whatever Carmen and I decide to do!

Let me know what you’re planning to do this v-day!
Until next time my loves,

September 2015 Favourites!

Hello beautiful people!
Apologies for being MIA the passed couple of weeks, I was away at the cottage and then I caught a nasty cold. Alas! I am back and so excited to be writing my September favourites post for you guys!
The leaves have started changing here in Toronto, and it’s gotten a little bit chillier which makes everything so cozy and lovely! I love autumn! Let me know in the comments what some of your favourite things about fall are!

First up is actually a re-discovered favourite! The GlamGlow Youthmud mask is not one I used to reach for very often, I found I prefer to use detoxifying masks or hydrating ones, but lately I’ve noticed my other masks just weren’t doing the trick for me. My skin has been feeling a little bit rough and uneven, my foundation even started bunching in weird placed on my face, so I thought I’d give this baby a try for some intense exfoliation. (This is a small sample size)
This masks tingles ALOT, to the point where it’s actually slightly uncomfortable, but the effects are incredible! After one use my skin was softer and radiant! I noticed a bit of purging a few days later, which was great because my detoxifying masks weren’t helping me out with any of my congestion. After using this my moisturizers and treatments absorbed faster, and my foundation applied seamlessly! I think I’ll be using this at least once a month from now on!

Essie’s fall line of nail polishes knocked it out of the park this year! I picked these 2 up at the beginning of September and have been wearing them non-stop!
The one on the left is called “frock n’ roll”, which is a really beautiful dark purple with silver micro-glitter in it. This applies incredibly opaque, it looks almost black until you see it in certain lights and the glitter comes into play. It’s incredibly easy to take off, considering it has glitter in it as well! Wearing this one makes me feel super vampy and sophisticated!
The polish on the right is called “leggy legend”, it’s a really gorgeous copper/bronze shade that looks like a sunset on your nails. When the shimmer in this catches the light it’s absolutely stunning! it’s not a colour I would normally go for, but when I wore it I feel in love, because it makes me feel edgy!

Revlon Black Cherry is the perfect berry lip for fall, it’s a gorgeous merlot shade that makes my lips look fuller and sexy without being too matte or too glossy. I’ve been wearing this a lot recently, and I just love it, obviously I have to re-apply after eating but other wise the longevity of this is really great. Since the formula isn’t matte, it doesn’t dry my lips out at all, which makes it comfortable to wear all day. If you’re looking for a new vampy lip colour I would highly suggest picking this classic up!

My last favourite is a book I could not put down in September! The Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard is the best book I’ve read in quite a while. I’m garbage at describing things without completely ruining the whole book, so I’m going to copy the insert from the book.
“Mare Barrow’s world is divided by blood – those with red and those with silver. Mare and her family are lowly Reds, destined to serve the Silver elite whose supernatural abilities make them nearly gods. Mare steals what she can to help her family survive, but when her best from is conscripted into the army she gambles everything to win his freedom. A twist of fate leads her to the royal palace itself, where, in front of the king and all his nobles, she discovered a power of her own – an ability she didn’t know she had. Except… her blood is Red.
To hide this impossibility, the king forces her into the role of a lost Silver princess and betroths her to one of his sons. As Mare is drawn further into the Silver world, she risks her new position to aid the Scarlet Guard – the leaders of a Red rebellion. Her actions put into motion a deadly violent dance, pitting prince against prince and Mare against her own heart”
If you enjoy fantasy novels, with magic and mystery I would definitely suggest giving this a go! The second book in the series comes out in February and I cannot wait!

That’s it for this post! I’ll be back very soon with a fall make up look for you guys!
Until next time my loves,

New Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick Review

Hello beautiful people!
I hope you all had a lovely weekend; and if you live in Toronto I hope you got to work/school safely, because we got 15cm of snow last night and the roads are crazy!

I recently picked up a couple of the new Revlon Ultra HD lipsticks, and as with most products, they have their pro’s and their con’s.

I can’t say a single bad thing about the actual lipstick itself, the formulation is super creamy and smooth, with incredible pigmentation.
When you apply this to your lips, there’s no skipping, no patchiness, one swipe of the bullet distributes an even and beautiful wash of colour on the lips.

I went with the shades Geranium and Rose.
Rose is a very natural brown-pink that is just slightly darker than my natural lip shade, and Geranium is a bright orange-coral that I think is going to be perfect for spring and summer!

These lipsticks smell nice, sort of floral with a hint of vanilla. They’re hydrating and lovely, but they don’t stay in place for hours. I needed to re-apply after eating and drinking, but aside from that these are fabulous.

Now, let’s talk about how awful the packaging is. It’s just clear plastic which I don’t really like, but the bullet doesn’t screw all the way to the bottom, so unless you put the lid back on absolutely perfectly, you’re going to scrape the product. Then you’re going to get lipstick all over the inside of the packaging, which looks messy and gross.
I just feel like all the other Revlon lip products have more luxurious packaging, and these just look a little bit cheap.

The product itself is amazing, which is why I will continue to use these, I’m just disappointed in the design of the packaging.

Let me know if you’ve tried these and what you think!

Until next time,

January favourites!

Hello beautiful people! I hope you’ve all had a lovely week, and are looking forward to a fun weekend!
Since we’re only a couple of days away from the beginning of February, I figured a January favourites post was in order!

My first January favourite has got to be my new kitten, Woobie. She is the cutest, most energetic little baby, and I can’t imagine my house without her now!

Next is actually a YouTube channel! I decided I want to make more of an effort to be physically active, but I’m so not a gym kind of person, so I haven’t always been motivated to exercise.
After finding Blogilates,that’s definitely changed!
Cassey Ho creates workouts that are fun and effective; they’re also not that long, which I personally prefer as I’m not the kind of person who can work out for hours on end! I’m definitely going at my own pace and taking it slow, but I look forward to working out alongside her videos! If you’re finding it hard to get motivated, I’d check out her channel.

During the winter months, I find my hair gets super dry and frizzy and my regular drugstore products just aren’t cutting it.
To remedy my issue, I went into Sephora and picked up the Living Proof PHD (perfect hair day) system, which has a shampoo, conditioner and a leave in treatment.
After the first use of these products my hair looked so much softer and healthier, there was way less frizz, and all in all my hair looked and felt 100 times better. I use the leave in treatment on my damp hair, and then I’ll either blow dry it or let it air dry, but I always end up with salon soft locks!
The shampoo and conditioner are quite pricey, at $30 a bottle, but as gross as it is, I only wash my hair 2 times a week, so the bottles last quite a while. I would say if you can’t afford those, at least go for the leave in treatment ($18) because I feel like alone it would still make your hair feel incredible!

The Revlon colourburst laquer balm in tease is my next favourite. I’ve been wearing this every single day, it’s so gorgeous!
I recently used this in a drugstore make up look post, so I won’t go into too much of a ramble, but this pencil is hydrating while adding a lovely wash of colour to the lips. I’ll definitely continue using this throughout February and into the spring.

I think I’m super late to the party on this product, but the Maybelline colour tattoo cream shadow in Bad to the Bronze (or on and on bronze depending where you live) is honestly incredible. It’s a gorgeous bronzey- taupe shade that creates a really beautiful effect on the lids. It’s got great pigmentation and it’s long lasting, just like all the other colour tattoos. I wear this by itself, or with shadow layered on top to add more intensity.
I’m sure a lot of you already have this in your collection, but if you don’t, I promise it’s worth the hype.

Another product I wrote a whole blog post on is the LUSH cosmetics Mask of Magnaminty, so again, I won’t gas on about it. I use this mask once a week and have definitely noticed a huge improvement in my skin! I have way less break outs, and my skin looks smooth and glowing. If you haven’t tried this, please give it a shot! It smells great and really works!

Yet again, a product I’ve already done a post on, but really love!
The Covergirl full lash bloom mascara separates lashes while adding a good amount of volume, and literally 0 flaking. I’ve worn this mascara for 12 hours straight without a single flake falling, and it’s not even a waterproof formula! The packaging is cute, and it’s a drugstore product so the price is right! If you’re looking for a new mascara, I would highly, highly recommend this one!

Finally is another skin care discovery! The kiehl’s midnight recovery concentrate is a blend of essential oils to help hydrate, and add radiance to your skin. You can use it on its own, or underneath your night cream depending how much hydration you want/need. I noticed a difference after only a few days of using this stuff! My skin looked less red, my blemishes weren’t as sore; my skin just looked hydrated and lovely. Also this serum smells slightly like lavender, which is soothing when you’re trying to fall asleep.

January was full of new favourites!
Let me know if you guys have tried these & what you think of them!
Until next time,

All Drugstore Make-up Look

Hello beautiful people!
Today I thought I’d share an all drug store make-up look with you! Sometimes it can be hard to find good quality products at the drugstore, especially eye shadows, so it took me a while to collect products I was happy with.
In the end though, I was really impressed with all the products I used and will definitely continue using them, but since I hadn’t used some of these before, this will be a bit of a review as well!

Products used:
Maybelline dream wonder liquid touch foundation in the shade 10 porcelain ivory

Rimmel match perfection concealer in the shade 125 fair

Maybelline new York define-a-brow in the shade medium brown

This brow pencil was too dark for me, but once I blended it out with a spooly it was fine. The brush that comes with this product is totally useless, but the pencil itself is nice and waxy and easy to use!

Revlon Bold lacquer mascara

Rimmel eye shadow quad in the shade 019 Sun Safari

I used all 4 of these shades to create a nice bronze but natural look, and I used the palest shade to highlight my cheek bones as well. These shadows are surprisingly buttery and they blend together beautifully, and the pigmentation is better than I expected. I did notice that I was going back to pack more product onto my brush than I normally would, but I was still impressed with the pay off, and it lasted all night.

Revlon colourburst lacquer balm in the shade 130 tease
This is by far my favourite product of the bunch, it’s an orangey red colour that created the most gorgeous and subtle bold lip. It has a nice texture, it’s thicker than a balm and it stays in place quite well, I only had to re-apply after eating. This stuff smells like mint and the pigmentation is really nice, you can build it up to be quite a glossy bold lip, or blend it in with your finger for a more subtle look, which is what I did.

Rimmel stay matte powder

Rimmel natural bronzer in the shade 022 sun bronze

This is a matte bronzer which I used to contour and bronze up my face, it has great colour pay off and blends out really well. It says it’s waterproof on the packaging, which I’m not too sure about, but aside from that I don’t have a bad thing to say about this, it’s a great bronzer.

Rimmel stay blushed liquid cheek tint in the shade 001 pop of pink

I really like this stuff! It comes out in sort of a mousse, and then you blend it onto your cheek using a brush or your fingers, and it gives a really beautiful and natural flush of colour to your cheeks. You also need a tiny amount, so this little tube will last me ages.

As you can see a lot of these products are Rimmel, I just think you get the best quality for your money with Rimmel as opposed to other brands.
Let me know in the comments what your favourite drugstore brand is!

Like I said I was super impressed with all these products and would definitely recommend giving them a try if you haven’t already. I don’t think I spent over $10 dollars on anything except maybe the foundation, which is pretty good considering the quality of these babies.

Until next time my loves,

November Topbox!

Hello beautiful people!
I haven’t done a Topbox post in a while so I figured it was about time, especially since my November box was quite a good’un!

First thing I need to rave about is the UniqOne all in one hair treatment ($19.95 full size). This is a spray in product that you can apply to damp or dry hair, and it’s said to do 10 different things to your hair; from repairing damage to heat protection to adding body! and let me tell you it does all it says on the bottle and BONUS is that it’s owned by Revlon, which is one of my all-time favourite drugstore brands. I applied it to my damp hair after showering and I could feel a difference instantly, once I blow dried my hair it was like I had just walked out of the salon! My hair looked and smelled incredible. I will definitely be picking up the full size of this baby because my hair has never looked better at home!

I’m a huge fan of the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream, so when I saw the Flawless Future caplet serum ($72 full size) in this month’s box I was pretty jazzed. This stuff looks so beautiful in the bottle and pumps out onto your hand looking quite “mother of pearl” esque,I’ve only used this a couple of times but so far I’m really liking it. The caplets have a little bit of shimmer to them which does come out on your skin, but once you apply your moisturizer it just creates a really nice radiance which comes through even after you’ve applied your foundation. This serum absorbs really quickly and feels slightly tacky on the skin for a minute or two which I don’t mind because again once you apply your moisturizer it’s totally fine. Like I said, I’ve only used this a couple of times so I can’t go in depth on benefits and what not, but I do like it so far although the price is a little high for me. Let me know if you use this and what you think!

I was excited to see an Eyeko product because I’ve heard such great things about this line. I got the Black magic mascara ($24 full size) which is supposed to add drama and curl to your lashes, which it absolutely does. The formula of this baby is incredible! It separates and adds volume without clumping. It says it’s slightly waterproof so it’s still easy to get off but it doesn’t budge at all; no flaking or printing! I’ll definitely be reaching for this for the next few weeks.

I saved my least favourite for last, I’ve used the Benefit beauty stay flawless 15 hour primer ($38 full size) before and I’m really not a fan of it. I don’t like that it comes in a stick, and I find it quite tacky on my skin, I also find my foundation doesn’t layer nicely on top of it so this is a bit of a thumbs down for me. I’m sure there are tons of people who love this! It’s just not for me.

That’s everything I got in my November Topbox! Let me know if you guys have tried these!
Also I wanted to let you know that for the month of December I’m going to be doing “Blogmas” which is my own little version of “vlogmas” since I don’t have a YouTube channel yet. I’ll be blogging every day until the 25th just keeping you updated on what I’m getting up to, as well as opening my Ciate Mini Manor Month nail polish advent calendar AND I’m challenging myself to watch a Christmas movie a day until the 25th as well! So I’ll be posting about all the festive stuff I’m getting up to.

Don’t forget to hit all the good buttons!
You guys are the best
Until next time,

August Favourites!

Hello beautiful people! Happy September! I cannot explain how excited I am that we’re finally getting closer to fall; I actually couldn’t wait and put my fall bed sheets on yesterday! (yes, I have seasonal bed sheets) To those of you who are off work today, I hope you’re enjoying your labour day Monday; to those of you starting school this week I hope it goes well and good luck!
September is going to be a super excited month here on Laauraborealis because I’m going to be posting some of my “Fall Top 5’s” every Sunday of the month, so keep your eyes open this Sunday for the very first one!

In the middle of August I actually went through my whole make up collection and threw out a bunch of stuff that was far too old to still have, and gave a lot of things I wasn’t loving away to friends and family which gave me a perfect opportunity to re-discover things I had in my stash that I had completely forgotten about and to pick up a few new things of course, haha!

First up is something that’s fairly new in the drug stores (In Canada) and since most of the products I threw out were mascara’s I thought I’d pick up a new one. The Revlon Bold Lacquer by grow luscious mascara(12$) is a product I was super excited to try because I used to use the original formulation and completely loved it so seeing this one I just had to get it. It’s a great mascara for everyday if you’re looking for length and I’d say a medium build up of volume, this is definitely not the most voluminous mascara I’ve ever used but I don’t like tones for my day to day looks so I’m really enjoying this. It doesn’t flake too much and I don’t get any transfer underneath my eyes or under the brow bone which is a huge bonus in my books. It separates and lengthens my lashes beautifully and coats evenly in a gorgeous super black formula which adds a tiny bit of drama to the look which I like a lot, honestly, I just love Revlon in general so I really didn’t expect to be disappointed in this product.

This next product is a bronzer that I got last winter but wasn’t sure I really loved it and then forgot about because I was so on the fence about it, BUT I re-discovered it in August and am so terribly sorry that I ever neglected it. The Laura Mercier Bronzing powder is a gorgeous shimmery bronzer that come’s split into two different shades, a lighter kind of muddy brown shade and then a darker shade that’s a little bit similar to NARS Laguna. I was really weary about this because of how dark it seemed in the pan and the amount of shimmer in it since I have such a fair complexion. To be honest, I need to be VERY light handed when applying this, and I definitely do not use it to contour but when I’m applying the smallest amount sort of all over the high points of my face and down my neck it gives me the most gorgeous sun kissed look. I was reaching for this over my matte bronzers all month because it just makes my skin look so healthy and radiant, and the shimmer doesn’t come out on the skin as intensely as it looks in the pan at all. Unfortunately they don’t actually make this one anymore and I can’t remember how much it cost, but she does have a baked bronzer in her collection that is absolutely gorgeous and if it’s anything like this one I’ll be getting it.

The last make up item is a lipstick and it’s from the L’Oreal collection privèe line ($9)which is a line of nudes inspired by certain celebrities and their skin tones. I chose the Julianne Moore nude because she is fair and light haired/eyed like myself, and I have absolutely been loving using this as my everyday lipstick. It’s quite a pink nude, but a very your lips but better kind of colour, you definitely can’t really tell that I have lipstick on but my lips just look nice with a little pop of pigment. It smells quite floral which I don’t mind and the formula is super creamy and hydrating, this doesn’t dry my lips out at all. I don’t love the packaging, it feels quite cheap and plastic but the lid locks really tightly so I don’t have to worry about it coming off in my purse. This shade is a great addition to my collection and it’ll definitely keep a place in my make-up bag through September.

My one and only skin care favourite for August is the Origins Eye Doctor eye cream, this stuff is absolutely incredible. I use this at night and wake up with the most hydrated and smooth under eyes ever, it has a really light feel which allows a little to go a very long way and it smells like cucumbers which I find so refreshing especially right before bed. It just feels so luxurious and like you’re really doing your eyes a solid, although it is quite pricey at $40 BUT as I said the size of a rice grain will hydrate your whole under eye area so it will last you a while. If you suffer from dry under eyes or even just have a tendency to get a little dry when the weather changes I would 100% recommend this because it’s probably the best hydrating eye cream I’ve used in a long time.

My final favourite is a tool and it is not new to me or the beauty world but I’ve just been absolutely obsessed with using it all month. The Real Techniques expert face brush (12$) allowed me to apply my foundation so beautifully throughout august that I just never want to use any other brush. I don’t know what it was but whenever I used something different I didn’t like my complexion as much as when I used the expert face brush! I love this brush because it’s a great density that really allows you to buff the product onto your skin but it’s also not shaped perfectly round it’s almost ovular which really lets you get into the smaller nooks around your nose and gives you great control because it’s not too big of a brush head. The real techniques brushes in general are so soft and easy to clean; they’re definitely my favourite drug store brushes.

That’s it for my August favourites! Leave me comments because it makes me smile when you do & don’t forget to follow laauraborealis on blog lovin’ aswell!
You guys are the best, have a great week ❤
until next time, xoxo
