Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Foundation Review

Hello beautiful people!
I hope you’re all enjoying the summer so far! It has been crazy hot here in Toronto! I have to say though, it’s better than the cold we had for far too long this winter.

Speaking of hot and sticky weather, I thought I’d write today’s post about the Tarte Rainforest of the sea Water Foundation ($47.00CAD), because it’s the perfect base for summer. I know this has been out for a couple of months, but I still thought it would be worth a review, especially because of how hot and humid it’s getting, and we don’t necessarily want to be wearing heavy, full coverage foundations. Let’s get to it, shall we?

DSCN2631First off, can we please take in how stunning this packaging is?! Tarte really out did themselves with this launch; the ombre effect on the lid is absolutely divine and eye catching.
The bottle says it’s a “Water foundation” and as someone who has combination skin, I was slightly skeptical about the way this was going to sit on my skin, some of the foundations I’ve tried with thinner consistencies just tend to slide around on my face.
Luckily, that was not the case with this product! It does have a very watery consistency, but it dries down demi-matte and doesn’t budge!

DSCN2635The dropper applicator is super cool because it doesn’t allow you to drop too much product onto the back of your hand/into your brush. Personally I prefer to apply this foundation with a dampened beauty blender, because it really allows me to press the product into my skin, whereas a brush sort of just streaks it across my face.

I have the shade Fair Neutral, which was slightly too dark for me when I bought it, but now that I’ve caught some sun it’s absolutely perfect.
This is very long lasting, but does get a little bit shiny when I’ve been out in the heat for a long time, but that can be easily remedied with a little bit of powder or some blotting tissues. It’s got a medium coverage, but I definitely think it’s buildable to full, although medium is just enough coverage for me for the summer months.
This also works well mixed in with your daily moisturizer if you’re looking for more of a sheer BB cream kind of effect.
If you’re looking for a new foundation for summer, or just in general, I would definitely say give this baby a try! Or even go into your local Sephora and ask for a sample, I promise you wont be disappointed!

Until next time my loves,

Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation Review

Hello beautiful people!
Happy Sunday! I hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend.

I was paroozing my local drug store a couple of weeks ago, when I came across a Maybelline display with their new Dream Velvet Soft-matte hydrating foundation ($12.99CAD).
This really intrigued me because you normally don’t see matte and hydrating together on the same product, so I figured I’d better give it a whirl!

I picked up the shade 05 Warm Porcelain (which I believe is the palest one on the collection) and it’s a decent match for me, maybe slightly too dark but as long as I blend it down my neck you can’t tell. The range has a lot of different shades, so if you’re not super pale like me you should be able to find a good match!
This has a surprisingly thick formulation, so you only need a tiny amount for your whole face, and the coverage is a really nice medium to full which can be nice during the winter months while we’re all trying to finish eating our Christmas chocolates! (hopefully it’s not just me!)
Despite it’s thickness, it actually feels really light and fresh on the skin because it’s almost a whipped texture, which allows it to blend beautifully onto your face.
“Soft-Matte” is the perfect description of this foundation, it’s definitely not dewy or glowy at all, but it’s not completely cakey and matte either, it leaves your skin looking natural and healthy without drying it out at all.
The longevity of this stuff is really nice too, I’ve worn it for a full 7-8 hours before without having it break up or rub off, and only having to powder once. I did find that after a really long day (10+ hours) it started to break up in my t-zone a bit, which could be due to my combination skin.
All and all I’ve really been enjoying this baby! If you’ve been thinking of trying this, or you’re just looking for a new base, I would definitely suggest giving this a try!

Until next time my loves,

Urban Decay & Gwen Stefani Palette – Swatches and Review

Hello beautiful people!
I hope all you’ve all had a lovely couple of weeks, and I hope anyone who celebrated American Thanksgiving had lots of food and family fun!

Carmen and I got home from Florida a week ago, and are just trying to adjust to the cold weather here in Toronto! Unfortunately that means we also both ended up catching colds.
Our trip to Florida was so much fun! The weather was hot and lovely, and it only rained a couple of times. The wizarding world of Harry Potter is absolutely incredible, and Disney was just as amazing as I remember it from when I was younger.

Being slightly under the weather, I spent a lot of time this week cruising the internet for Christmas presents, but as we all do, (hopefully) I ended up buying myself a thing or two as well!
One of those things is the new Urban Decay Gwen Stefani limited edition eye shadow palette ($70CAD)

The packaging of this is absolutely stunning, super edgy and cute, which is exactly what I’d expect from Gwen Stefani. It it slightly pricier than say a Naked palette($64CAD), but you get 3 more shades in this, and the pan size is a lot larger than the Naked palettes.

This palette is honestly a dream, you get the incredible formulation of the Urban Decay eye shadows, with some sexy and fun colours that can only be associated with Gwen Stefani.
This has a lot of neutrals with a good mix of shimmers and mattes, but it also has the last row, which comes with some vibrant shades to play with as well.
I think this would be great for beginners or pros, and would make a really lovely Christmas gift if you have someone in your life you want to spoil, because you know they wouldn’t pick it up themselves. Or, you could just do what I did and buy it for yourself!

Onto the swatches!
First row, from left to right;
Blonde : is a nice shimmery cream colour that would be great as a highlight or all over the lid shade.
Bathwater: is a beautiful pale gold, that again, would be great for all over the lid or highlight.
Skimp: Is sort of more satin than shimmery, and more peach than anything, just a great shade for so many things.
Steady: is a gorgeous rose gold shade that would be great blended through the outter corner or really just all over the lid as well.
Punk: I was really excited when I saw this shade, because I don’t have anything like it in my collection. It’s a matte chocolate brown, but it almost has red undertones which I find really unique, and makes an incredible crease colour.

Second row, from left to right;
Baby: Is a gorgeous and super shimmery champagne shade that’s great for pretty much any eye colour, and compliments the shades in the rest of the row beautifully.
Anaheim: Is a really pale, matte, ashy brown that would be great in the crease or as a liner under the eye.
Stark: Is quite a cool toned brown and very pale, this would be great for a more matte sophisticated eye look, or even just used as a transition shade in the crease.
Zone: Another matte brown that again would be great blended through the crease to create depth for a nice smokey eye.
Serious: I like this shade because it looks matte but it’s actually a very fine satin finish, and it’s a lovely charcoal grey that could add some sexiness to any eye look.

Last row, from left to right;
This row is definitely the most fun!
Pop: Is a gorgeous, glittery pale peach that is honestly my favourite kind of shadow to wear all over the lid; because it’s just so feminine and gorgeous.
Harajuku: This shade is a really cute pale pink, with a bit of a frosty finish to it. I personally don’t like to wear pink eye shadow, but this could look beautiful on so many different skin tones. I think I’m going to try to use this one as a blush!
Danger: This shade is absolutely stunning, it’s such a deep and vibrant blue, I can’t wait to play around with this, especially with the holiday season upon us!
1987: This is another unique shade that I absolutely love! It’s a really rich gold, but it’s not super yellow, it just looks really pretty and fun.
Blackout: This palette wouldn’t have been complete without a matte black, and this shade has the most incredible pigmentation!

The formulation of these shadows has the exact same quality as the Naked palettes, super buttery and blendable without being dusty or having any fall out. The pigmentation carries a serious punch with these babies, it’s not patchy or stiff at all. These shadows last all day long as well, I honestly can’t say enough good things about this!

If you’ve been eyeing this, or know someone who would love it, I would 100% recommend getting it (and soon, because it’s limited edition).

That’s all for now my loves,
I’m still deciding whether or not to do Blogmas again this year, so keep your eyes open December 1st to see if it starts!

Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Foundation Review

Hello beautiful people!
And a very Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians! I hope you’re all stuffed with turkey, mashed potatoes and lots of pie!

A couple of week ago, I picked up the new Maybelline foundation that claims to “transform your skin” with it’s antioxidant enriched formula.
I don’t think I’ve been using this for long enough to notice a difference in my skin, but I will say that I really love this foundation. I picked up the shade 10 porcelain ivory which is the lightest shade in the range, and it matches me perfectly.
I love that it has a pump, there’s nothing worse than having to pour too much foundation onto a brush or the back of your hand! Drugstore foundations have really stepped on their game with packaging, especially for the prices! This is $12, which I think is great for the quality of the product.
As far as formula goes, this foundation is really nice. It’s got a demi-matte finish, which is great for autumn/winter time, and it lasts all day long! I wore this for 13 hours and it was still looking good at the end of the night. Obviously after a day that long there was some moving around, and it was pretty much wiped off of my chin, but I give this a big thumbs up for longevity.
The consistency is quite thick, so one pump is really all you need for your face. It’s definitely a medium to full coverage formulation that blends really beautifully onto the skin without clinging to dry spots or sitting awkwardly in my pores.
Make up also layers seamlessly onto this, no bunching or streaking at all!
Again, I don’t think I’ve been wearing this long enough to notice any difference in my complexion, but it does make my skin look naturally healthy and matte when I wear it. I’ll keep you guys posted on whether or not it “transforms” my skin in the next few weeks.
I would definitely recommend giving this a try if you’re looking for a new drug-store foundation!

That’s it for now my loves, leave me a comment letting me know how your weekend was!
Until next time,

Tanya Burr Cosmetics – Eye Shadow Palettes Review & Swatches!

Hello beautiful people!
Today is a holiday here in Canada, but for those of you at work or starting school today, I hope your Monday hasn’t been too bad!

If you have been reading my blog since the beginning, or really if you know me at all, you know that my favourite YouTuber of all time is Tanya Burr. Maybe a year ago, she brought out a line of nail polishes and lip glosses – unfortunately the nail polishes wont ship from the UK to Canada but I managed to get my hands on her glosses through Feel Unique, and I absolutely love them, I think I have about 5 in my collection! Then, a few months after that she brought out her line of lashes (which are also fab) and then at the beginning of August she re-launched her whole beauty line with a gorgeous new look and a few new products.
The new look of her products is much more sophisticated and luxurious with pretty gold and clear packaging – but, the products I was most excited about in the re-launch were her new eye shadow palettes! The day they launched I went onto Feel Unique and ordered all 3 of them, they arrived in the mail early last week and I couldn’t wait to play with them!

The packaging is super compact, so it’s easy to carry them around in your make up bag! Each one has a different pattern on it, and the shadows themselves actually have the pattern embossed in them, which I think is a really nice detail to add a little something extra to the palettes.

I also really love that they have cute little heart shaped mirrors in them, which are actually still a great size to use to apply your make up!
All of the shadows are super pigmented, blendable and buttery. She brought out a great range so that there’s something for everyone, no matter your eye colour or skin tone. There’s also a great range of finishes, some are shimmery, some are matte and a couple are even glittery shades. She also did a great job naming her shadows, they’re all super cute!
Every one of these is wearable for every day or evening, and they’re super affordable at around $12 or so depending on exchange rates.

My favourite palette of the three is the Hollywood Eye Palette

This palette is super warm and neutral which is right up my street, wearing these gold-bronze-brown shades is when I feel my absolutely prettiest, so I’ve been reaching for this one a lot! My favourite shade in this palette is Enchantment, because it’s a gorgeous glittery bronze that’s great for all over the lid in summer, but it’s also a good shade as we transition into fall.
(Swatches from left to right: Nude delight, gold coin, enchantment, bookworm)

Next up is the Galaxy Eye Palette
This is a much cooler toned palette, with quite a grey-lilacy undertone to it. I love using this for a night out, the shades just compliment each other so much with a good mix of shimmer and matte. I find I feel very sexy and classy when I wear colours like this! Also, the shade snowflake has the most intense pigmentation, especially for a frosty white shadow.
My favourite shade from this palette is Moonlight, it’s the perfect light grey/silver that really makes blue eyes pop!
(Swatches from left to right: Snowflake, moonlight, stormy sky, starry night)

Last but absolutely not least is the Fairytale Eye Palette
This palette is definitely a more low-key everyday palette with three mattes and one shimmer shade. it has a good mix of warm and cool tones, and would be a great one to have in your make up bag to go from day to night. I also love that this palette has a matte black, because it’s a great versatile shade to add definition to the lash line or smoke out the outter corner.
My favourite shade in this palette is Alohomora, not just because it’s a Harry Potter reference, but because it’s almost an exact dupe for MAC’s Satin Taupe, which is my all time favourite MAC eye shadow.
(Swatches from left to right: Cream tea, velvet cushion, alohomora, witches cat)

If you live in the UK, I would highly suggest heading to your local superdrug to pick up one (or all) of these, and for those of us who aren’t in the UK, Feel Unique is a great site to pick these, and a lot of other UK cosmetics up.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Body Wash Review

Hello beautiful people!
How has your week been going so far? hopefully you’ve all been doing exciting things, and enjoying July to the fullest! I cannot believe we’re already at the end of the month! Where is the summer going?! Although I do love the end of July because my birthday is the 26th!

Now speaking of summer, despite the lovely weather, clothes and food; there are a few things about the hotter weather I don’t enjoy. Bugs, humidity and worst of all getting back and shoulder pimples.
Not the cutest subject, I know, but it’s something that I suffer with, especially in the summer time because I’m sweating more often. It really bums me out, because I want to wear dresses and tops with no sleeves – but I feel self conscious about my back/shoulder break outs, so this summer I finally decided to go out and try to find something to help with my problem.

The Body Shop Tea Tree body wash is literally a god send, I’ve been using this for about 2 and a half weeks and let me tell you, I’ve been wearing strappy tops like no ones business! this body wash has helped clear up my back and shoulders so fast, I can’t even explain.

I use this only on my shoulders and back when I’m in the shower (and use a different wash for the rest of me) but every time I use it my break outs look smaller, less red, it’s even helped reduce some of the scarring I had on my back! It smells pleasant like tea tree oil, and doesn’t foam up too much which I like – I just use this with my hands and run it along my shoulders and then sort of contort myself and hope I don’t slip and fall in the shower while I try to get my whole back haha!

I did notice a bit of a worse break out period when I first starting using this, for about the first week, but I figured my skin was just purging toxins so I stuck it out for another week and I’m so glad I did! This product is so effective and so affordable! I believe it’s only about $13! you can’t go wrong with that!
If you suffer with break outs anywhere on your body, I would definitely suggest giving this body wash a try!

Until next time my loves

New Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick Review

Hello beautiful people!
I hope you all had a lovely weekend; and if you live in Toronto I hope you got to work/school safely, because we got 15cm of snow last night and the roads are crazy!

I recently picked up a couple of the new Revlon Ultra HD lipsticks, and as with most products, they have their pro’s and their con’s.

I can’t say a single bad thing about the actual lipstick itself, the formulation is super creamy and smooth, with incredible pigmentation.
When you apply this to your lips, there’s no skipping, no patchiness, one swipe of the bullet distributes an even and beautiful wash of colour on the lips.

I went with the shades Geranium and Rose.
Rose is a very natural brown-pink that is just slightly darker than my natural lip shade, and Geranium is a bright orange-coral that I think is going to be perfect for spring and summer!

These lipsticks smell nice, sort of floral with a hint of vanilla. They’re hydrating and lovely, but they don’t stay in place for hours. I needed to re-apply after eating and drinking, but aside from that these are fabulous.

Now, let’s talk about how awful the packaging is. It’s just clear plastic which I don’t really like, but the bullet doesn’t screw all the way to the bottom, so unless you put the lid back on absolutely perfectly, you’re going to scrape the product. Then you’re going to get lipstick all over the inside of the packaging, which looks messy and gross.
I just feel like all the other Revlon lip products have more luxurious packaging, and these just look a little bit cheap.

The product itself is amazing, which is why I will continue to use these, I’m just disappointed in the design of the packaging.

Let me know if you’ve tried these and what you think!

Until next time,
