Hello beautiful people!
I hope you’re enjoying this lovely day, unfortunately I’m stuck at home with a nasty cold 😦
There’s really nothing worse than getting sick in the summer time! Let me know some of the things you guys do to feel better when you’re sick, as soon as this is posted I’m curling up in bed with a large cup of tea and a harry potter movie!
A little while ago I posted a drugstore make-up starter kit, so I figured it was about time I wrote a high-end one!
Now, this post was exceptionally difficult to choose products for, because I love so many things from a lot of different high-end brands, but i did my best, just for you guys. I will say, there are two or three things in each category because I had such a hard time choosing, but they’re all worth it!
As I just said, there’s two foundations in this category, but they have very different finishes.
First, NARS Sheer Glow in the shade Mont Blanc, I love this foundation so much! It’s definitely a full coverage base, but it gives you the most incredible glow without looking sweaty or greasy, your skin just looks healthy and happy. It’s quite long wearing, although I do find that after a few hours I need to powder, but even then it doesn’t look cakey. My only beef with this foundation is that they don’t make a shade pale enough for me, I can only wear this in the summer OR if I have a bit of fake tan on and work it down my neck really well.
Next is the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Foundation in the shade 0.5 (because I’m too pale to be a real number)
This foundation is very light weight, but a very good coverage, definitely medium to full. It has quite a liquidy consistency so you definitely have to shake the bottle before pumping some onto the back of your hand or your brush. It has quite a matte finish and is very long lasting, you don’t need a powder with this at all!

Again, there’s two of these but I personally like to use them for different things.
NARS Radiant Creamy concealer in the shade Chantilly is my favourite concealer for under-eye brightening and concealing. It has quite a thick formulation, but it blends out seamlessly. You don’t get any creasing with this stuff, and the tube lasts a long time since a little goes a long way.
The Benefit Boi-ing concealer in the shade 01 is a good one for blemishes, hyper-pigmentation, anything you really want to cover up but don’t want to be caking full-coverage foundation onto. This stuff is heavy-duty, it covers anything with the tiniest amount and doesn’t budge all day. I find that I use this the most around “that time of the month” when my hormones are really wreaking havoc with my skin.

I didn’t choose a powder for this post because I don’t see the point in spending money on a high-end powder when the drugstore one’s are awesome anyway.
The Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Bronzer is something I love using in the winter when I’m at my palest. It adds a really beautiful flush of colour to the skin without being too orange or red, it’s got a good honey tone which is great for warming up the skin. Since it’s matte, I also occasionally like to use this to contour my face slightly, not a strong line but a subtle shadow for days when I don’t feel like wearing too much make-up.
The Charlotte Tillbury Film Star Bronze and Glow is the perfect contour shade, it has just the right amount of grey in it so that it creates a beautiful shadow to slim out the face, despite the fact that it is slightly shimmery. I find this can be a bit too dark to bronze my whole face with, but if I use a really light hand I can get away with it for photos or a night out.
Lastly, the Hourglass Ambient Bronzer in the Shade Luminous Bronze Light. This product is incredible for bronzing, it has the classic hourglass ambient powder mixed in with a muddy pigment that allows for the perfect sun kissed look. I get so many compliments when I wear this because it’s so natural looking, it has a buttery texture so it doesn’t drag or skip when it’s applied to the skin. I would recommend this shade especially for people with paler skin.

This was such a hard category for me because I am a blush fiend. I managed to pick two brands that I think are the best of the bunch!
MAC blushes in general are just incredible, they have a great range of shades, the pigmentation is good and they last all day. Some of my all time favourite blushes are from MAC! The two I photographed here are Cubic, which is a really natural dusty rose shade for days when I’m wearing a bold lip or a smokey eye. The other shade is Springsheen which is a very shimmery, very girly coral pink that I love to wear with gold eye shadow and a natural gloss.
Next are the NARS blushes, I find that NARS has a very unique range of colours, from naturals to bright bright bolds, the finish is good and the pigmentation is outstanding! Literally you need to dab your brush in once per cheek and you’re good to go, I also feel like NARS blushes are a bit more luxurious with the packaging and the velvety feel of the product itself. The two I’ve photographed here are Seduction, which is a deep plum/cranberry shade that adds the most romantic flush to your cheeks. The other is Almeria which was limited edition last Christmas, but its sort of a rusty cranberry shade that I love to wear with a nude lip and big winged liner.

The MAC mineralized skin finishes are really beautiful and natural highlighters, sort of a barely there subtle sheen to the skin. You can apply them all over the skin, just the cheek bones and the other high points of your face or really wherever you want.
The Becca Shimmering Skin Perfectors are quite the opposite, they take “strobbing” to a whole new level. These will give you JLo glow for sure! very finely milled, high shine and pigmentation, I only apply these to the high points of my face and very lightly, but it gives the most incredible glow. I like to use them as eye shadow as well, because otherwise I’ll never hit pan before they go out of date.
Finally the MAC cream colour bases are a great in between, they’re not so subtle you can’t tell they’re on your skin, but they’re not too over the top either. The cream formulation allows for easy blending and a long lasting shine!

As far as palettes go, you really can’t go wrong with the Urban Decay Naked palettes, they have an incredible range of shades to suit everyones preferences and skin tones. The shadows are buttery and blend well, they last all day and there’s enough colours to create any kind of look imaginable ( especially now that they brought out the new smoky palette).
For individual shadows MAC is the cream of the crop. You can pick and choose your own shades to make your own palette, or just buy the little pots if you’re the kind of person who wears the same look every day. They have an incredible range of colours for all the different looks you could want to create, the pigmentation and formulation of all their different finishes is amazing. The first high-end eye shadow I ever bought was MAC All That Glitters and I’ve probably re-purchased it 15 time since then!
I know this is not a shock to anyone, so I won’t ramble. The Kat Von D tattoo liner in Trooper is the best liquid liner in the world, hands down.
MAC makes such lovely pencil liners, they’re soft enough that you can smudge them out on your upper lash line, but they’re also long lasting enough to stay on your water line all day long!

I don’t really see the point in paying full price for high-end mascara’s but if I had to pick one it would be the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. This stuff separates and adds length and volume without being too clumpy! It gives the effect of false lashes without having to fuss with real ones, my only beef with this is that it flakes after the first few uses.
Anastasia Dip Brow in Soft Brown is the only brow product I’ve ever found that stays in place and looks natural. You have to be very light handed when applying this, but once you get the hang of it your brows will never have looked better! Not to mention you need to tiniest amount so the pot will last you forever!
This was also a difficult category to choose for, but again MAC and NARS came out on top.
I don’t think I need to ramble too much about MAC lipsticks because at least every woman I know owns at least one. They are great for every finish, glossy, matte, creamy, bold it doesn’t matter, MAC has your back. Obviously depending on the finish they don’t all have the same wear time, but they all have great shades, finishes and they smell like vanilla which is always a bonus. I do find that some of the matte shades can be quite drying, but that goes with any brand as well.
NARS Audacious lipsticks are a fairly new launch but they quickly climbed the favourites ladder for me. The formulation of these is amazing, it’s creamy and light but not so much that it slides all over your face. The staying power is great, and the range of colours is incredible! Again the packaging of the NARS lipsticks is a lot more sophisticated and luxurious, and they also all have girls names which i think is just adorable.

Last but not least are tools!
I recently discovered the Beauty Blender (late to the party, I know), and I am in love. This little sponge applies any foundation or concealer without it looking too much, it absorbs any excess product which doesn’t allow you to apply too much to your skin. It blends out products like a dream, leaving your skin looking airbrushed with no harsh lines or bunching product.
As far as brushes go you can’t go wrong with MAC or Sephora professional line. all synthetic so they’re easy to clean, and super soft so they won’t aggravate your eyes or skin at all!
That’s it for today my loves, time for Harry Potter and some peppermint tea!
Until next time,
