March 2016 Favourites!

Hello beautiful people!
I hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend and no one has pranked you too hard today!

It’s time for another monthly favourites post! I haven’t written one of these in ages, so I have quite a few beauty/skincare/random favourites to share.

I’ll start with skincare as I’ve really been having quite a difficult time with my skin this winter. I don’t know if it’s because of the weather, or that I’m getting older or what but it’s really been getting me down! I’ve had a lot of annoying breakouts, some random redness and lots of little dry patches, which makes all my foundations look awful on my skin. Finally in the passed couple of months I’ve found a few products that seem to helping the situation!

The Clinique take the day off cleansing balm ($36CAD) is what I’ve been using as step one in my skin care routine lately, and I’ve really been loving it (as you can see by the crater I’ve dug out of the middle). It’s the consistency of wax, but when you rub it in your palms, it kind of warms up and melts to turn into this really nourishing oil that melts away all your make up!
I like to massage this onto my skin for about a minute to make sure I’m really getting all that make up off, and then I’ll wet my hands and it kind of emulsifies into this lovely milk, which then cleanses the skin without stripping it at all. I love my micellar waters, but can find them to be a bit drying, so this has been working wonders for me as it doesn’t dry out my skin at all! a little goes a long way as well, so this tub should last me another 3 months or so!

Another skin care saviour I’ve been loving is the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant ($74CAD). This is quite pricey, but may very well be the nicest thing in my skin care collection. As you can see from the photo (which looks slightly like drugs) it comes in a powder form, which you then add water too and create this lovely and gentle exfoliant that you can use every day. I’ve been using this at night after my cleansing balm to help get rid of any debris, dry skin or extra make up, and let me tell you my skin feels incredible! This is formulated with rice protein which helps to get rid of dead skin and promote cell turn over for a more radiant and smooth complexion!
This is also a bit of a 3-in-1 product, the girl at the store told me you can add a lot of water for a more gentle exfoliant to brighten the skin and gently cleanse, or you can use a little bit of water for a rougher more physical exfoliant 3 times a week, or you can add a little bit of water and leave it on as a 5 minute mini mask! If you ask me, I think for that many options it’s well worth the price.

Last but not least in my skin care favourites is the Kiehl’s Hydro-plumping re-texturizing skin serum concentrate ($60CAD). This serum literally feels like you’re rubbing water into your skin, it’s so light but so hydrating at the same time. Usually things that hydrate feel really thick and sticky on the skin, but this just sinks right in and gives my skin the drink of water it’s really been needing, and I’ve definitely noticed less dry spots on my face. This stuff is also meant to plump the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, but I’ve only been using it about 2 weeks so I’ll have to see about that!

On to make up favourites!

This is a fairly new purchase for me, but I absolutely love it. The By Terry touch expert advanced ultra-radiance active concealer ($59CAD) in the shade 1 is the absolute perfect concealer for getting rid of dark circles. This is very expensive, but Toronto just got Saks Fifth Ave, and they had a By Terry counter and I just couldn’t resist (sorry not sorry). I got this kind of bisque shade because I wanted a little extra something to cover up my dark circles, and this literally makes them disappear – if I’m being honest, my under eye circles are not that bad, but this stuff just makes them non-existent and makes me feel super awake and fresh! It has similar packaging to the YSL Touche Eclat pen with the little pump on the bottom that forces the product up and into the brush, which I think is really classy and lovely. The product itself smells really fresh and clean, and blends into the skin like a dream! A little goes a long way with this stuff as well so you can get your moneys worth!

I wasn’t a huge fan of the first Tartelette palette, but when I saw the new Tartelette In Bloom palette ($54CAD) I absolutely had to have it! The shades in this are a mix of shimmer, glitter and mattes, with nice warm neutral shades. I was really feeling the matte shades in this palette throughout March, I’m not usually one to wear an all matte look, but the formulation of these shadows just blends like butter so they look really soft and lovely on the lid. If you’re looking for a new palette I would definitely suggest giving this baby try!

Last but not least is the Kat Von D everlasting liquid lipstick in the shade Bow n Arrow ($24CAD). I wore this non-stop in March, it’s just the perfect bold lip to transition into spring without being too red or berry toned. It dries down to this beautiful ashy, burnt rose colour which I absolutely adore! It lasts all day long, through eating and drinking, and it doesn’t dry out your lips at all! If you haven’t given her liquid lipsticks a try I would highly recommend any of the shades because the formula is spot on!

My final March favourite is actually a TV show that I literally binge watched through February and March because I just couldn’t get enough! Parks and Rec is probably one of the funniest TV shows I’ve watched in a long time, it stars Amy Poehler, Nick Offerman, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Pratt, Aziz Ansari and a bunch of other amazing actors/actresses who just work so well together. It’s about a group of people who work in the Parks Department in this tiny town in Indiana and it just catalogues their day to day activities, which sounds boring but is actually amazing! If you watched the office, or are a fan of any of the actors I mentioned I think you could get into Parks and Rec!

That’s it for now my loves!
Until next time,
xoxo

Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation Review

Hello beautiful people!
Happy Sunday! I hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend.

I was paroozing my local drug store a couple of weeks ago, when I came across a Maybelline display with their new Dream Velvet Soft-matte hydrating foundation ($12.99CAD).
This really intrigued me because you normally don’t see matte and hydrating together on the same product, so I figured I’d better give it a whirl!

DSCN2539

I picked up the shade 05 Warm Porcelain (which I believe is the palest one on the collection) and it’s a decent match for me, maybe slightly too dark but as long as I blend it down my neck you can’t tell. The range has a lot of different shades, so if you’re not super pale like me you should be able to find a good match!
This has a surprisingly thick formulation, so you only need a tiny amount for your whole face, and the coverage is a really nice medium to full which can be nice during the winter months while we’re all trying to finish eating our Christmas chocolates! (hopefully it’s not just me!)
Despite it’s thickness, it actually feels really light and fresh on the skin because it’s almost a whipped texture, which allows it to blend beautifully onto your face.
“Soft-Matte” is the perfect description of this foundation, it’s definitely not dewy or glowy at all, but it’s not completely cakey and matte either, it leaves your skin looking natural and healthy without drying it out at all.
The longevity of this stuff is really nice too, I’ve worn it for a full 7-8 hours before without having it break up or rub off, and only having to powder once. I did find that after a really long day (10+ hours) it started to break up in my t-zone a bit, which could be due to my combination skin.
All and all I’ve really been enjoying this baby! If you’ve been thinking of trying this, or you’re just looking for a new base, I would definitely suggest giving this a try!

Until next time my loves,
xoxo

Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Foundation Review

Hello beautiful people!
And a very Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians! I hope you’re all stuffed with turkey, mashed potatoes and lots of pie!

A couple of week ago, I picked up the new Maybelline foundation that claims to “transform your skin” with it’s antioxidant enriched formula.
DSCN2140
I don’t think I’ve been using this for long enough to notice a difference in my skin, but I will say that I really love this foundation. I picked up the shade 10 porcelain ivory which is the lightest shade in the range, and it matches me perfectly.
I love that it has a pump, there’s nothing worse than having to pour too much foundation onto a brush or the back of your hand! Drugstore foundations have really stepped on their game with packaging, especially for the prices! This is $12, which I think is great for the quality of the product.
DSCN2142
As far as formula goes, this foundation is really nice. It’s got a demi-matte finish, which is great for autumn/winter time, and it lasts all day long! I wore this for 13 hours and it was still looking good at the end of the night. Obviously after a day that long there was some moving around, and it was pretty much wiped off of my chin, but I give this a big thumbs up for longevity.
DSCN2143
The consistency is quite thick, so one pump is really all you need for your face. It’s definitely a medium to full coverage formulation that blends really beautifully onto the skin without clinging to dry spots or sitting awkwardly in my pores.
Make up also layers seamlessly onto this, no bunching or streaking at all!
Again, I don’t think I’ve been wearing this long enough to notice any difference in my complexion, but it does make my skin look naturally healthy and matte when I wear it. I’ll keep you guys posted on whether or not it “transforms” my skin in the next few weeks.
I would definitely recommend giving this a try if you’re looking for a new drug-store foundation!

That’s it for now my loves, leave me a comment letting me know how your weekend was!
Until next time,
xoxo

Make Up For Ever Nudes You Need Palette – Review & Swatches!

Hello beautiful people!
I trust you are all enjoying this beautiful Sunday! To all my fellow Torontonians, I hope you’ve all gone down to The Ex and filled yourself with deep-fried deliciousness, because I will definitely be doing that later this week!

Make Up For Ever is definitely not a brand that’s new to me, but to be honest, I’ve only tried a few things from them, and they were all complexion products. When I saw/swatched they new Artist Palettes in Sephora I just had to pick up the “Nudes You Need”(49$) one because I fell instantly in love.
DSCN1998

The packaging of this palette is super sleek and cute, the lid just sort of flips up and the shadows are there. Since it’s so skinny I think it will be really easy to travel with, plus the lid has a nice big mirror in it which is also very handy when you’re traveling! The picture on the front is just the normal make up forever lips & brush which makes it a little edgy. The only thing that could be bad about this is that the black packaging will probably get all covered in fingerprints and other make up if you put it into a make up bag.

DSCN2000

These shadows are so dreamy, I literally can’t think of a better word to describe them. They’re like touching silk or velvet, so soft and intensely pigmented. Look at that black shadow, that’s one swipe of my finger with the product on it!
All of the shades in the palette are shimmery or have a bit of glitter in them except for the black and the grey right above it, both of those are matte.
These blend together like butter and last all day long! I’ve used them with and without a primer and the colour stays the same, no fading or creasing of any kind! I’m kicking myself for never having tried these shadows before!
The colours in this palette are great if you love neutrals, and there’s a good variety of shades from white, to bronze, to slightly purple, which means it will compliment every skin tone and allow for a ton of different looks.

From left to right: ME-512, I-514, I-528, ME-644, D-562, S-556, D-652, I-544, S-102

I really wish Make Up For Ever named their shadows, that’s my only beef with them! It’s so much more fun when they have names, not to mention easier to remember.
The price of this palette is great for the 9 shadows you get, and with the pigmentation and formulation of these, I think it will take a long time to hit pan!
If you were eyeballing this, or are just looking for a new palette to pick up, I would highly suggest giving this one (or any MUFE shadows) a go!

Until next time my loves,
xoxo

May Favourites!

Hello beautiful people!
I hope you’re all as happy as I am that it’s finally June- and it’s finally starting to feel like summer! With that being said, it’s time for monthly favourites! This month there are a couple of TV shows added into the mix so make sure you read to the end!

I’ve seen a lot of people raving about the Maybelline Instant age rewind concealer, so I figured I had to give it a try. I picked it up in the shade fair, and it’s actually a perfect match for me! This concealer is so worth the hype, it’s creamy and brightening, and doesn’t crease at all. It has a very light weight consistency, and it blends out under the eye so smoothly – I don’t have particularly bad dark circles, so I can’t really confirm if it covers them, but it does have a nice coverage. My one beef with this product is the applicator, I don’t like that you have to twist the product out into the sponge tip, I feel like it’s definitely wasting the concealer. Aside from that, I would put this up there with some of my favourite high end concealers, and this is a fraction of the price!
DSCN1768

Springsheen from MAC is the most incredible blush for spring, I definitely feel like I’ve put this in a favourites before, but I just love to wear this when the weather is warmer. It’s a gorgeous coral-pink shade with gold shimmer that adds the most incredible glow to your skin, so you don’t even need to use a highlighter with this blush! It really warms up my pale skin, but I feel like it would look gorgeous on any skin-tone.
DSCN1769DSCN1772

The EOS lip balms are another favourite in the beauty community, and I’ve had a few in the past, but I had a few other balms to work through and just recently re-purchased this one in the summer fruit scent! I like to use it before bed so when I wake up my lips are so soft and moisturized. Honestly, as far as lip balms go, I really like these ones, especially because you get quite a lot of product in one little ball.
DSCN1764

The last beauty favourite is one of the shadows from the MAC cool neutral palette; don’t get me wrong, the whole palette is absolutely divine, but this shadow just takes the cake for me. I’m pretty sure it’s called deception (but don’t quote me on that!) It’s in the second row, fourth from the right, and it’s the most beautiful, smoky taupe-mauve shade! It’s really similar to MAC Patina, but it has more of a purple under tone than a gold one. I’ve been wearing this on its own for weeks now; it can be worn for day time with a little lip gloss, or for evening with some winged liner and a bold lip! With a shade like this, the possibilities are endless.
(Let me know if you want a full review/swatches of this palette)
DSCN1762DSCN1763DSCN1774

Finally my last two favourites are TV shows I got very into throughout May. The first one is called Orphan Black, and it’s sort of hard to tell you what it’s about without giving everything away, but I can say it’s full of action, plot twists and some good love stories, and I would classify the genre as science fiction. I was also drawn to this show because it’s filmed mostly in Toronto, which is awesome because I can point out places I know while I watch this awesome show!
The second show is called Reign, this one is a period drama based in France while Mary Queen of Scots was living there. Again, this show is ACTION packed with some good love stories; if you like game of thrones and pretty little liars you’ll like this show, it’s a good mix of beautiful costumes and just the right amount of betrayal and drama.

Until next time my loves,
xoxo

My Evening Skin Care Routine!

Hello beautiful people & happy Wednesday! We’re half way to the weekend!

Since my last post was my morning skin care routine, I figured it was only right to do my evening skin care routine as today’s post!

I like to start by taking off my make-up (if I was wearing any that day) because there’s nothing worse than trying to properly cleanse your skin with a full face of make up on.
I use bioderma cleansing water ($33) to take off my face make up, I find this super effective and gentle on the skin. It doesn’t strip away any moisture, and doesn’t cause any break outs which is always a bonus!
I use this Clean and Clear Eye Make-up Remover ($6.99), because I find it’s more effective at removing any and all make up from my eyes, including waterproof mascara!
DSCN1588

After I’ve taken all the make up off the surface of my skin, I like to use my Kiehl’s Calendula cleanser ($35) and my clarisonic Aria ($230). Using these together deep cleans my skin and leaves it feeling soft and supple!
Some night’s I’ll use an exfoliator, like Kate Somerville Exfolikate or Origins Modern Friction, but that’s only a couple of times a week when I really want to give my skin a nice treatment.
DSCN1592

Once I’ve cleansed, I use my Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate ($50), which is a blend of essential oils meant to hydrate, heal and protect your skin. This serum smells amazing, like lavender and vanilla, and even though it’s an oil, you’re skin doesn’t feel greasy at all. Since I’ve been using this, I’ve really noticed an improvement in the tone and texture of my skin!
DSCN1595

I usually let that sink in for a couple of minutes, I’ll go and brush my teeth, and then I’ll come back and put my night cream on, and I bet you guys can guess, I use the Origins High Potency Night-A-Mins ($51)! Surprise surprise, more Origins!
I’ve been using this for a little over a year now, and I love it so much! It’s quite a thick cream, which absorbs into your skin while you sleep, and you wake up with the softest, smoothest, prettiest skin! It also smells like oranges, which is absolutely lovely.
DSCN1597

Last but not least, I throw on the Origins Eye Doctor eye cream ($40.50), which smells like cucumbers and hydrates the under eye area like a dream.
I find in the colder months my eyes water, and then the skin gets really dry and sometimes even cracks, but when I started using this eye cream, that went away completely! Also, I feel like this pot will last me a long time because it has a light consistency, so a little goes a long way.
DSCN1601

There you go! My evening skin care routine! Let me know in the comments if you’ve used any of these products, or if you have any other recommendations!
Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram and twitter to get updated about new posts!
Until next time,

My Morning Skin Care Rountine!

Hello beautiful people! Hopefully the weather where you are is as sunny and gorgeous as it’s been here in Canada lately, I think spring has finally arrived!
I was reading through some of my old posts the other day, and I realized that I’ve never written a skin care routine post! So, without further ado, my morning skin care routine!

During the day, I don’t like to have a lot of heavy products on my skin; I typically reserve products that are geared more towards treating and correcting my skin for the evening. All of these products are light weight; they smell really good, and provide protection and hydration for my skin throughout the day.
Let me just tell you guys that I have combination/oily skin, so I tend to get oily through my t-zone and break out in that area as well. So even though some of these products are amazing for me, they may not work with your skin type.

First, I cleanse with my Kiehl’s Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash ($35). This is a really nice cleanser that lathers into thick foam, which really makes it feel like you’re cleansing your skin deeply, just like it says on the bottle. I’ve been using this since just before Christmas and I really like it, it’s gentle and effective and makes my skin feel really clean without drying it out.
DSCN1580

Next I move on to my Origins Original Skin Renewal Serum with Willow Herb ($48), I recently mentioned this in a favourites post, so I won’t ramble on for too long about it. This serum has a gel like texture, so it sinks into the skin without feeling greasy, your skin feels soft as soon as you apply this, and over time I’ve really seen an improvement in the tone and texture of my skin.
DSCN1583

The moisturizer I use is something that won’t be a shock to you if you’ve been reading my blog for a while, the Origins A Perfect World White Tea Antioxidant moisturizer ($51). I’ve been using this as my day cream for almost two years now and I love it, its super light-weight which allows a little to go a long way, it smells like oranges so it really wakes you up in the mornings. This product is enriched with vitamins and antioxidants that protect your skin from free radicals, while adding a beautiful level of hydration. You can also get this cream with an SPF in it, but I prefer the regular formulation.
DSCN1581

Last but not least is the Origins (Surprise, I really love origins!) Gin-Zing eye cream ($37.50). This cream really brightens and de-puffs the under eye area, it has a slight shimmer to it which reflects the light, and it hydrates really well without being too watery.
DSCN1584

Make-up layers on top of these products beautifully as well!
This has been my morning skin care routine for a few months now and I’m noticing some great improvements in my skin!
Let me know if you’ve tried these or if you have and recommendations for my combo/oily skin! I’m always up for trying new products!
I hope you all have a beautiful weekend!
Until next time,
xoxo |
