May Topbox!

Hello beautiful people!
I hope you’ve all been doing well! We’ve finally had some gorgeous weather here in Toronto, I actually went on a long walk with Carmen through High Park on the weekend and it was absolutely gorgeous! So many flowers in bloom and people enjoying the sunshine!
Over the long weekend I had a chance to try out all the products I got in my May Topbox and I was really happy with them, here’s what I got this month:

Kinetics nail colour in ‘Splatter it!’
This is one of those top coats that makes it look like you’ve got paint splattered across your nails which I’m not a huge fan of, but I used it as an accent nail and was pleasantly surprised with how cute it looked. I definitely wouldn’t be putting this on every single nail because that would be heinous to try and remove but I really enjoyed wearing it on my ring finger, I think it adds a little bit of whimsy to an otherwise simple manicure. The specks applied really well, the brush painted them on nice and evenly, I only had to do one coat! These are available online at and they retail for &9, as I said I’m not a huge fan of the speckled polished but I’ll definitely be checking out their other selections!

Next up is a product I really wanted to be excited about but it ended up just being blah for me, it’s the Lancome Hypnose doll lashes mascara in 01- So Black! I’ve been on the hunt for a new mascara so when I got this in my topbox I was like YES! After using it 3 times I wasn’t wowed. It’s supposed to create 6 times the volume for your lashes* that is absolutely not true I think maybe it created 2 x the volume tops. It separated my lashes nicely and coats them evenly with no clumping but I wasn’t truly impressed and since the full size is $31.50 I sort of expected a little more from it. I found after a few hours there was a lot of flaking and printing up onto my eye lid as well, so that was really bothersome. All in all not the best mascara I’ve ever used and not the worst, but I would definitely not pay the money for it in the future!
* topbox comes with a little insert describing all the products, this is where it said it created 6x the volume.

I love the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream so when I saw this moisturizer I was jazzed to try it out! The Visible Difference Skin Balancing Lotion with SPF 15 is super light-weight and really moisturizing, it feels silky smooth and absorbs really quickly into your skin. I was very impressed with this product, it’s formulated for combination skin, which I have, so it’s oil free which is awesome and it’s meant to maintain your skin’s moisture level so you don’t create excess oil during the day. I don’t have extremely oily skin so I didn’t notice a huge difference in the oiliness throughout the day but I did feel like my skin was well hydrated and protected from the sun! I’m currently using an origins daily moisturizer but once that runs out I’ll definitely think about picking this up since it’s a little bit cheaper at $48 for the full size.

Last but 100% not least is the Benefit Posiebalm from their new line of lip tints. This stuff is gorgeous, it adds a really sheer layer of colour to your lips but the formula is super moisturizing and fairly long lasting. Posiebalm is a baby pink colour that adds the slightest tint to your lips which actually looks super cute for a day where you’re not wearing too much make up or you just want a little bit on if you’re going to the gym or something. It smells like flowers which at first I wasn’t sure about but I got used to it and actually like it now. Honestly this little sample hasn’t left my bag and I wish it had been bigger because I really love wearing it! The full size is $22 which I think is pretty good for such a great product, I’m definitely going to be checking out the other colours!

That’s all I got in this Month’s topbox! Let me know in the comments if you’ve tried any of these and what you thought of them! Or if there’s any other beauty boxes I should be checking out (Canada friendly please!)
Don’t forget to hit the good buttons! You guys are the best!
Until next time,
xoxo – Lo

March Favourites!

Hello Beautiful people! I can’t believe it’s already April! I have to say I’m super excited for the lovely spring weather to finally make its way here to Toronto and in light of that a lot of my favourites this month are quite springy.

First up is The Face Shop blush in the colour 05 peach cushion. First of all it has the CUTEST packaging I’ve ever seen, I love using the little puff ball to apply it because it makes me feel so feminine and lovely. Also, the pigmentation is great! It’s a matte peachy coral colour that I think really compliments my skin tone and I didn’t have a blush this colour so I was very excited to pick this one up, not to mention it’s 9$!

Next is the Benefit girl meets pearl highlighter, it’s a liquid formulation that’s a champagne beige colour and it leaves the most gorgeous effect on the cheekbones, brow bone, cupids bow wherever you like to highlight. It doesn’t create a dramatic radiance just a really lovely glow to the skin which I’ve been absolutely loving since the weather has been getting relatively nice here in TO. It is quite expensive at $36 but it comes in the kind of packaging where you twist the bottom and the product comes out the top so it’s really easy to control how much comes out, and also you really don’t need a lot at all so it’ll last quite a while.

I went to a Sephora VIB rouge event and picked up the Marc Jacobs limited edition matte lip gel in the colour pout, it’s a peachy nude colour and has a creamy and hydrating formulation. The woman at the store tried it on me and put a pink toned gloss over top and I absolutely fell in love and just had to have it. The lipstick was $36 and I ended up picking a different gloss that was less expensive, but I definitely think it’s going to be my staple everyday lipstick for spring time!

The gloss I ended up purchasing was one of the new Urban Decay naked ultra-nourishing glosses in the colour walk of shame. It’s a pinky nude toned gloss with a TINY bit of shimmer that pairs beautifully with the Marc Jacobs lipstick and also looks gorgeous on its own. It smells a little bit minty and is a nice consistency, it’s not sticky at all but it’s slightly thick so you know It’s not going to be running all over your face. It retails for $24 dollars and they have a beautiful range of colours, I will definitely be picking up more of these glosses.

Last is the Maybelline baby skin instant pore eraser, now this is definitely not a new product in the beauty blogging world but it is new to me and I really like it. It’s a clear balm with a really velvety feel, my foundation applies beautifully over top of it and it really does minimize the look of my pores. It’s a great alternative to benefit’s the porefessional as the baby skin one is about $6.

So those are all of the products I was loving in March and I’m sure I will continue loving throughout spring and summer! Let me know what some of your March Favourites were in the comments and don’t forget to hit the like&follow buttons because that always makes my day.
until next time, xoxo

My favourite mascaras

Hello beautiful people!
I was talking with my friend Nicole a couple of weeks ago about make-up and she went through my mascara collection and asked which ones I liked the best, and that made me think that I should write a blog post about my favourite mascaras! So I’m going to give you guys my review on my top 4 favourites, 2 for volume and 2 for every day.
I’m sort of doing it so that there’s a drug store brand for each and a higher end mascara for both as well.
alright lets get this party started

every day mascara #1
Revlon lash potion mascara
I love this mascara for every day use because it’s not overly dramatic but still makes your lashes look fantastic. It has a really cool brush which is shaped a bit like a star/triangle, that has longer and shorter bristles which allows every single one of your lashes to be coated as you jiggle and turn the wand. I have the colour black and in waterproof, which I find is really nice with my eye colour/skin tone, but I believe they make a darker one and a blackish brown as well.
I really like the effect this gives me, because my lashes look full and long without looking clumpy, it’s also really affordable, around the 10 dollar mark which is great because the tube is a pretty good size.

Every day mascara #2
benefit bad gal mascara
I’m sure you’ve all heard of this mascara, it’s probably one of benefits top selling products and I totally agree that it should be! it has a really big wand, which allows for optimal lash grabbing without having to use too many coats to achieve the look you’re going for. I like to use this when i’m going for a little bit less eye shadow, so my lashes are sort of the focus of my face because this mascara allows for a little bit of drama without too much volume, and I believe it’s about 26 dollars, so a little bit on the pricier side but I think it’s absolutely worth it. It comes in black and I believe it comes in a burgundy colour as well, and I don’t think it’s waterproof, or at least the one I have isn’t.

Volumizing mascara #1
maybelline the falsies mascara
I use the newest edition of this mascara which comes double sided, one side for the upper lashes and one side for the bottom lashes which comes with a smaller wand, and I’ve been loving using it recently.
since we’re getting into the colder months here in Canada I’m finding I really like going for a more smoky and sexy look with my makeup and the falsies makes my lashes look amazing to compliment whatever eye shadow look Im going for, and I think it’s about 10 dollars as well. It comes in a few different colours and waterproof or not waterproof, depends on your preference, I use the black waterproof one.
I do find sometimes it can be a little clumpy so I always make sure I don’t have ANY left-over mascara on from the day before and I always curl my lashes beforehand because I don’t often wear actual false lashes. I like to use this on days I’m feeling like I want to look a little more glamorous! And I can definitely seeing myself using this a lot more as we’re getting into the holiday season what with parties and fancy dinners and things (I also just feel that the holidays are a time where you can look glamorous whenever you want)

Volumizing mascara #2
Clinique high impact extreme volume mascara
The name is very long but also verrrry accurate. This is probably the most volumizing/dramatic mascara that I own and I absolutely love it. It gives my lashes an intense and full look without looking like I put on the whole bottle. It doesn’t flake or have any drop down if I’m wearing it on a night out or if I’m going dancing with my girlfriends, it stays put which is exactly what a girl needs on a night out! The wand is made of a stiff plastic with tons of tiny little bristles, and I find I only need to put on a couple of coats of this on my top and bottom lashes to achieve the effect I want. I believe it costs about 23 dollars, but it comes in a very large tube, I’ve had mine about 6 months and it still hasn’t dried out or anything so I think it was a good investment to make. It only comes in one colour and it’s not waterproof so it’s super easy to get off at the end of the day/night which is a bonus, because there’s nothing worse than rubbing your eyes for 10 minutes to get your mascara off!

These are my top 4 mascaras for every day or for volume, I would love to hear some of your favourites so leave a comment and let me know! I hope this helped you guys if you’re looking for a new mascara or you just wanted a little pick me up for your lashes.
Until next time
