Blogmas day 23! – A day of Christmas baking!

Hello beautiful people!
I can’t believe tomorrow is the final day of blogmas, which means there are only 2 days until Christmas! December has been such a wonderful month, full of lots of festive fun.
My calendar’s today:

This year I decided I would bake a few different things for our Christmas dessert, so I spent the day in the kitchen covered in icing sugar, flour and sprinkles.
I baked some rice krispie treats to take to Carmen’s moms tomorrow night. Since we spend Christmas eve with her, I thought it would be nice to bring a little something that we could all enjoy while we open gifts!

I made peanut butter ball’s at my sister Jen’s request. I wasn’t going to make them but she begged me, and honestly I didn’t need that much convincing, because they are heavenly.
Finally I made some sugar cookies since my family really seems to enjoy them!

It is surprising how many dishes need to be done after a day of baking! So now that the kitchen is clean I’m going to curl up and watch A Muppet Christmas Carol and fall asleep!

I hope you all had a beautiful evening and I’ll be back tomorrow for the final day of blogmas!
You guys are the best,

Blogmas day 17! – Baking for a party!

Hello beautiful people!
I hope your week is treating you well so far! we are officially one week away from Christmas eve, that is honestly insane!

I managed to have a bit of a lay in this morning, which was nice since I’ve been getting up very early lately. Once I finally got out of bed I had a very productive day getting ready for my party tomorrow!
Of course the first thing I did was open my calendars:

After I had some breakfast, I got my cookie dough’s out of the fridge and started rolling! I made sugar cookies and gingerbread cookies, and then I cut them into little elves, snow flakes, candy canes and trees because I thought they’d be the most fun to decorate.

Once I cleaned up the kitchen, I went out to pick up a few last-minute things I need for my party!

Today’s Christmas movie is a classic! Frosty the snowman! This is probably the movie I remember watching most as a kid.

Tomorrow’s post is going to be a festive make-up look! so don’t forget to come back and check that out.
Until tomorrow my loves,

Blogmas day 16! – A last minute gift idea and remembering to give back!

Hello beautiful people!
I hope you’re week is treating you well so far, and if you’re already off for the Christmas holidays I hope you’re enjoying your time off!
Today was a bit of a busy day, I did a lot of running around and picking things up because I’m having a little Christmas party on Thursday. Nothing huge, just my best girlfriends; they come over and we decorate cookies, eat some good food and catch up!
Advent haul as always:

When I got home I made the cookie dough for the party which I’ll bake into fun shapes tomorrow, and then my dad came home with some delicious walker’s shortbreads for me, so I had a few with a cup of tea.

My family isn’t big on Christmas crackers, so we always make little gift bags to put at everyone’s place setting, and it got me thinking that this would make a great gift if you have a lot of people to buy for and you’re not sure what to get them.
It would be suitable for people you work with, or as a hostess gift.
In our gift bags this year we put a scratch card, some chocolate covered pretzels and some chocolate kisses, pop all that into a cute little gift bag and you’re good to go.
This is a relatively inexpensive and easy to make present. People will always appreciate a little treat, and if they win on the scratch card they’ll be very happy to have gotten it!
It’s just a little something to say you’re thinking of them during the holidays without breaking the bank.

Speaking of thinking of people during the holidays, I just wanted to say that we shouldn’t forget to give back during the Christmas season. We all get so caught up in the gifts, food and family that sometimes we can forget that there are people out there who don’t have loved ones looking out for them. (I’m not placing blame on anyone and I’m guilty of it too.)
As a family we try to donate to local charities and shelters during the holidays, and as often as we can throughout the year. I know everyone has different financial situations and maybe unable to give money, but you can volunteer your time if you have some, or you could even just to donate clothing that you no longer want or wear.
Everything makes a difference to people in need and we should try to remember to do what we can all year-long, but the holiday’s are a nice time if you can only give once a year. Donations and volunteering are always great, especially because it helps the community.
I believe, in general just being kind all the time is a great way to uplift people. Holding a door open, a smile, giving up your seat on the bus, giving a sincere random compliment or even just a hello can make the difference for someone having a bad day. We all share this world and our communities, and I think it’s nice to look up from our phones and tablets and remember that there are people around us – not even necessarily people in need, but just fellow human beings.
I know that kindness can change things and we should remember during the holiday rush and all the time that we’re all in this together. **cue high school musical dance routine**

That’s my humanitarian ramble, I hope you all know how much I appreciate you.

On the topic of WHOmanitarians I watched the cartoon version of the Grinch who stole Christmas, which is my all-time favourite Christmas movie. I love that it’s only 20 minutes long, and the soundtrack is just amazing (and $5.99 on itunes).

I hope you all have a beautiful evening, and remember to be kind.
Until tomorrow,

Blogmas day 10! – Cookies and make up brush cleaning!

Hello beautiful people!
Happy hump day! Friday is only two short days away, and Christmas is in 15 days! I honestly cannot believe how fast December is going by!

As always, advent wonderland
Today I actually got a loose glitter instead of a nail polish in my calendar which is so cool! You just sprinkle it into your nails while they’re wet and it adds this awesome effect to your manicure. I may use this for new years!

Today was a pretty good day, I was out with my dad all morning running presents out to our family who live outside the city, then we came home and I popped some Pillsbury cookies in the oven because my family really enjoys these.

Once I pulled those out of the oven I decided it was probably about time to give my make-up brushes a good deep clean, especially with the season of smoky eyes and glitter upon us!

I use baby shampoo to deep clean my brushes, not only does it make them incredibly soft, but they end up smelling really nice! It’s also a very cheap way to get nice clean brushes!

I usually just run the warm water and put some baby shampoo into my hand and swirl the brush around, then I’ll run it under water until it comes clean or add more baby shampoo if it’s necessary. The whole process normally takes me about 30-40 minutes depending how dirty my brushes are, and then I just set them on a towel to dry overnight.

Today’s movie is a childhood classic of mine starring Jessica Biel and Jonathan Taylor Thomas called I’ll be home for Christmas, this is definitely not the best movie I’ve ever seen but, it’s nostalgic for me so I enjoy watching it.

I hope your Wednesday evening is festive and amazing!
Until tomorrow,

Blogmas day 8! – Chocolate covered peanut butter balls!

Hello beautiful people!
I hope your Monday has been treating you all well! I spent mine doing a few things around the house and then I made some delicious treats, which I’m really excited to share with you guys!
But first, the advent calendar haul of the day as always.

Let’s be honest, besides the obvious joy of spending the holidays with family and friends the best part of the Christmas season are all the treats! I love getting to try all the sweets and baking that people do, and even hold my own Christmas cookie decorating party! (There will definitely be a post on that)

I love peanut butter, and as a kid a one of my friend’s mom used to make these incredible chocolate covered peanut butter balls, but only around the holidays. So, while I was paroozing pinterest I stumbled upon a recipe for them and almost screamed with joy! I decided I absolutely had to make them to share with my family and fellow peanut butter lovers.
I’ve linked the recipe for them above, so if you’re feeling like a sweet treat you could make them too! They don’t take long to make at all, and it would be something fun to do with your siblings or children because it can get a little messy!

Of course step 1 is to get all your ingredients in order!

Mixing butter and peanut butter together to make it super smooth

Adding icing sugar to dry out the mix and add a little sweetness

My favourite step is adding the rice krispies because these really take the peanut butter balls to another dimension

Form your mixture into 1 inch (ish) balls and put them in the fridge to chill a bit

While you’re waiting for the peanut butter balls the set you can melt your chocolate, I chose to use a double broiler but you could just do it in the microwave. Make sure to stir the chocolate so it doesn’t burn!
* the recipe says to add shortening to your chocolate, I personally left that out because I didn’t think it was necessary.
You can also use whatever kind of chocolate you prefer, I used a mix of milk and semi-sweet

Once your chocolate’s melted it’s time to start dipping! I used a wooden skewer to roll the peanut butter balls in the chocolate, but if you have a better method you can use that too!

Have fun with it, make a mess!
The recipe has a white chocolate drizzle on top of them but I just opted for some Christmas sprinkles to make them a bit more festive!
Once you’ve got them all coated in chocolate you need to put them in the fridge until the chocolate hardens!

Once the chocolate is hard you’re good to start enjoying them! They are so delicious, and a big crowd pleaser.
They keep best in the fridge because then you don’t have to worry about them melting, or you can serve a big plate of them and I promise they’ll all be gone!
** always make sure you’re conscious of people’s allergies before serving these, just in case!

Now I’m going to be curling up on the couch and trying not to eat all of these while I watch the Christmas movie of the day!
The family stone is a great portrayal of the dynamic of a family during the Holidays! it’ll make you laugh and cry, it’s just a great movie.

There you have it! I hope you guys enjoyed this post! leave me a comment letting me know what some of your favourite holiday treats are!
Until tomorrow,

Blogmas day 4! – A little bit of baking!

Hello beautiful people!
Today has been a nice relaxing day, I slept in a little bit and then got up and opened my calendars like always! The polish today is actually a bottle of the famous Ciate Cavier which I’ve tried before and really liked wearing, although they do fall off throughout the course of an evening. These little pearls are so pretty and I think they would make a really gorgeous accent nail!

Today’s Christmas movie is actually one of my all time favourite rom com’s – The Holiday, such a great story and Jude Law is just delicious eye candy.
I was in the mood to do a little baking today so I found a recipe for Candy Cane Kiss cookies on Sally’s Baking Addiction which is a great site if you like to bake! and I thought I’d give it a whirl. I linked the full recipe, so I wont go into too much detail about the steps but I took some photos throughout the process!

Of course you’ve got to make sure you have all the ingredients and tools before you start a baking adventure!

The smell of butter and sugar being mixed is absolutely divine. Also I had Michael Buble’s Christmas album playing the whole time I was baking these little guys.

We have dough! Once you hit this step you just roll it into little balls and then you get to roll them in colourful sprinkles!

Into the oven for 8 to 10 minutes!

Looking very good! now you let them sit for 5 minutes, then you get to add the kisses

I went with chocolate and candy cane kisses because not everyone likes mint! Once you stick the kisses in you have to pop them in the freezer for another 5 minutes so the chocolate doesn’t melt too much.

After they come out of the freezer you’re ready to enjoy your candy cane cookies! which are delicious, let me tell you!

That’s it for today! Carmen and I are going out this evening to pick up a couple of gifts for a Christmas party we have coming up so hopefully the mall wont be too busy!
Until tomorrow,
