August 2015 Favourites!

Hello beautiful people!
Happy Sunday! Let me know what you’ve been up to this weekend, I went to a small party on Friday and then spent the rest of weekend pretty much just lounging. On Saturday, Carmen and I went to see American Ultra, the new Kristin Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg movie. It was actually really funny, and had a lot of good action scenes, I feel like it’s the kind of movie that pretty much anyone could watch and partly enjoy.

August is coming to a close, and we’re moving in to September! Good luck to anyone going back to school in a couple of weeks!
I know that I should still be in summer mode, but I’m incredibly excited for fall. I can’t wait for the fashion, and the leaves changing colour, and all the yummy food & drinks, and let’s be real, the closer we are to fall, the closer we are to Christmas!

My first favourite is one of the new Rimmel Kate Moss lipsticks, from the nude line that just recently came out. I bought 2 of these, but number 42 is the absolute perfect nude, and really, how cute is this packaging?
DSCN2009 DSCN2012 DSCN2013

It’s the perfect balance of pink and beige, and it suits my skin tone so well. It’s only slightly paler than my natural lip colour, which I really like, especially as make up looks are transitioning into slightly smokier and darker looks for fall.
This lasts a good few hours without needing to be re-applied, it doesn’t have a completely matte of glossy finish, it just looks pretty and healthy on the lips. Of course it has the typical Kate Moss scent, sort of sweet and fruity, and these are really affordable, I think I found this on sale for $7.99!

Next up is a Burberry product from the Sephora VIB Rouge exclusive kit. Burberry just became available on Sephora.ca, so they brought out a small kit that I thought I’d try out, because I’ve never used burberry products before. This is just a sample size, but the full size is $44.

This is called the Earthy Blush in no. 7 Light Glow, but it says it’s a contouring powder for face and eyes. I’ve been using this primarily to sculpt my cheekbones, but I think it would look great as a crease colour as well. This is a great muddy shade with slightly grey undertones, which are perfect for contouring the face. It’s completely matte, and has the most incredible formulation. It’s is super velvety and blendable, not to mention highly pigmented, so a tiny bit goes a long way. This powder is actually scented, which to be honest makes it feel a little bit more luxurious, it smells sort of sweet and a little bit floral as well. Burberry packaging is also just so sophisticated and lovely, if you’ve tried anything else from them, please leave some recommendations in the comments!

Monica actually bought me this next favourite for my birthday! The CND Vinylux nail polish in the colour Naked Naivete ($12).
DSCN2027
This is the prettiest pink colour for fingers and toes, I love shades like this because they’re so sexy and classy. These polishes have incredible wear time! I work with my hands, and this lasted a week without a single chip! the formulation is really opaque, and doesn’t go on streaky or anything like that. I will definitely be picking up a few more shades!

Next up is a mask I’ve heard great things about, The new Origins Original Skin retexturing mask ($30)
(This is just a sample size, but I’ll definitely be purchasing the full size)
DSCN2024
I’ve really been loving this, it’s supposed to deep clean the skin, while refining it’s texture and keeping it radiant. I’ve used this about 4 times and I absolutely noticed a difference in my skin. It definitely deep cleans, because once this dries down, it actually has little pieces of jojoba beads to exfoliate the skin as you wash it off, so it leaves your skin feeling super duper clean. After you wash it off, your face does look more glowing and healthy, because this tingles slightly which increases blood flow to the face. As for the texture of my skin, it did feel softer with the help of the exfoliation, but it took 2 or 3 uses for me to notice the more congested and uneven areas of my skin start to disappear. I use this twice a week, but if you have dry skin I would suggest only using it once. I would definitely recommend giving this a shot, you can get this deluxe sample with a Sephora code, which I think is Maskmini.

Last is the Kat Von D everlasting liquid lipstick in the shade A-go-go ($24)
DSCN2030DSCN2032
This was definitely a purchase that was slightly out of my comfort zone, but when I tried this on in Sephora, I fell absolutely in love. This a very bright orange-red shade that looks gorgeous with pale skin and a simple eye look. Even though I felt slightly self-conscious the first time I wore this out, I got so many compliments that I want to wear it all the time. It’s a great bold alternative to the classic red or berry shade that I’m used to wearing, not to mention that this formulation literally lasts all night long. I wore this out on Friday night, from 9pm to around 2am and it didn’t budge, I was eating and everything. This stuff dries down like concrete on your lips, but it’s incredibly easy to remove, just a bit of cleansing water on a cotton pad and you’re in business. I’ll definitely be picking up some more of these babies!

That’s it for now my loves!
Until next time,
xoxo

Make Up For Ever Nudes You Need Palette – Review & Swatches!

Hello beautiful people!
I trust you are all enjoying this beautiful Sunday! To all my fellow Torontonians, I hope you’ve all gone down to The Ex and filled yourself with deep-fried deliciousness, because I will definitely be doing that later this week!

Make Up For Ever is definitely not a brand that’s new to me, but to be honest, I’ve only tried a few things from them, and they were all complexion products. When I saw/swatched they new Artist Palettes in Sephora I just had to pick up the “Nudes You Need”(49$) one because I fell instantly in love.
DSCN1998

The packaging of this palette is super sleek and cute, the lid just sort of flips up and the shadows are there. Since it’s so skinny I think it will be really easy to travel with, plus the lid has a nice big mirror in it which is also very handy when you’re traveling! The picture on the front is just the normal make up forever lips & brush which makes it a little edgy. The only thing that could be bad about this is that the black packaging will probably get all covered in fingerprints and other make up if you put it into a make up bag.

DSCN2000

These shadows are so dreamy, I literally can’t think of a better word to describe them. They’re like touching silk or velvet, so soft and intensely pigmented. Look at that black shadow, that’s one swipe of my finger with the product on it!
All of the shades in the palette are shimmery or have a bit of glitter in them except for the black and the grey right above it, both of those are matte.
These blend together like butter and last all day long! I’ve used them with and without a primer and the colour stays the same, no fading or creasing of any kind! I’m kicking myself for never having tried these shadows before!
The colours in this palette are great if you love neutrals, and there’s a good variety of shades from white, to bronze, to slightly purple, which means it will compliment every skin tone and allow for a ton of different looks.

I really wish Make Up For Ever named their shadows, that’s my only beef with them! It’s so much more fun when they have names, not to mention easier to remember.
The price of this palette is great for the 9 shadows you get, and with the pigmentation and formulation of these, I think it will take a long time to hit pan!
If you were eyeballing this, or are just looking for a new palette to pick up, I would highly suggest giving this one (or any MUFE shadows) a go!

Until next time my loves,
xoxo

An Afternoon At The Races – FOTD & outfit

Hello beautiful people!
I hope you all enjoyed your weekend, let me know in the comments what you got up to!

Yesterday my family and I went to the local race track to bet on the horses for my dad’s birthday! This is the second year in a row we’ve done it, and it’s so much fun! We eat a lovely buffet lunch, dress up and wear fancy hats and scream like maniacs at the horses we want to win.
Since it’s an occasion to get a little glam, I thought I’d share what kind of make up look I went for, and what I wore with you guys!

I’m super happy with how this look turned out! Still glam, but not too much for day-time!

I didn’t manage to take a picture of my full outfit, but I wore this beautiful dress from Anthropologie I picked up a few months ago, and these cute little sandals I bought at a DSW in Cleveland a few years back!

High-End Make Up Start Kit!

Hello beautiful people!
I hope you’re enjoying this lovely day, unfortunately I’m stuck at home with a nasty cold 😦
There’s really nothing worse than getting sick in the summer time! Let me know some of the things you guys do to feel better when you’re sick, as soon as this is posted I’m curling up in bed with a large cup of tea and a harry potter movie!

A little while ago I posted a drugstore make-up starter kit, so I figured it was about time I wrote a high-end one!
Now, this post was exceptionally difficult to choose products for, because I love so many things from a lot of different high-end brands, but i did my best, just for you guys. I will say, there are two or three things in each category because I had such a hard time choosing, but they’re all worth it!

Complexion
Foundation:
As I just said, there’s two foundations in this category, but they have very different finishes.
DSCN1902
First, NARS Sheer Glow in the shade Mont Blanc, I love this foundation so much! It’s definitely a full coverage base, but it gives you the most incredible glow without looking sweaty or greasy, your skin just looks healthy and happy. It’s quite long wearing, although I do find that after a few hours I need to powder, but even then it doesn’t look cakey. My only beef with this foundation is that they don’t make a shade pale enough for me, I can only wear this in the summer OR if I have a bit of fake tan on and work it down my neck really well.

Next is the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Foundation in the shade 0.5 (because I’m too pale to be a real number)
This foundation is very light weight, but a very good coverage, definitely medium to full. It has quite a liquidy consistency so you definitely have to shake the bottle before pumping some onto the back of your hand or your brush. It has quite a matte finish and is very long lasting, you don’t need a powder with this at all!
DSCN1906
On the left is the Urban Decay foundation and NARS on the right.

Concealer:
DSCN1908
Again, there’s two of these but I personally like to use them for different things.
NARS Radiant Creamy concealer in the shade Chantilly is my favourite concealer for under-eye brightening and concealing. It has quite a thick formulation, but it blends out seamlessly. You don’t get any creasing with this stuff, and the tube lasts a long time since a little goes a long way.

The Benefit Boi-ing concealer in the shade 01 is a good one for blemishes, hyper-pigmentation, anything you really want to cover up but don’t want to be caking full-coverage foundation onto. This stuff is heavy-duty, it covers anything with the tiniest amount and doesn’t budge all day. I find that I use this the most around “that time of the month” when my hormones are really wreaking havoc with my skin.
DSCN1912
On the left is the NARS concealer and Benefit on the right.

I didn’t choose a powder for this post because I don’t see the point in spending money on a high-end powder when the drugstore one’s are awesome anyway.

Bronzer/Contour:
DSCN1915
The Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Bronzer is something I love using in the winter when I’m at my palest. It adds a really beautiful flush of colour to the skin without being too orange or red, it’s got a good honey tone which is great for warming up the skin. Since it’s matte, I also occasionally like to use this to contour my face slightly, not a strong line but a subtle shadow for days when I don’t feel like wearing too much make-up.

The Charlotte Tillbury Film Star Bronze and Glow is the perfect contour shade, it has just the right amount of grey in it so that it creates a beautiful shadow to slim out the face, despite the fact that it is slightly shimmery. I find this can be a bit too dark to bronze my whole face with, but if I use a really light hand I can get away with it for photos or a night out.

Lastly, the Hourglass Ambient Bronzer in the Shade Luminous Bronze Light. This product is incredible for bronzing, it has the classic hourglass ambient powder mixed in with a muddy pigment that allows for the perfect sun kissed look. I get so many compliments when I wear this because it’s so natural looking, it has a buttery texture so it doesn’t drag or skip when it’s applied to the skin. I would recommend this shade especially for people with paler skin.

Blush:
This was such a hard category for me because I am a blush fiend. I managed to pick two brands that I think are the best of the bunch!
DSCN1920
MAC blushes in general are just incredible, they have a great range of shades, the pigmentation is good and they last all day. Some of my all time favourite blushes are from MAC! The two I photographed here are Cubic, which is a really natural dusty rose shade for days when I’m wearing a bold lip or a smokey eye. The other shade is Springsheen which is a very shimmery, very girly coral pink that I love to wear with gold eye shadow and a natural gloss.

Next are the NARS blushes, I find that NARS has a very unique range of colours, from naturals to bright bright bolds, the finish is good and the pigmentation is outstanding! Literally you need to dab your brush in once per cheek and you’re good to go, I also feel like NARS blushes are a bit more luxurious with the packaging and the velvety feel of the product itself. The two I’ve photographed here are Seduction, which is a deep plum/cranberry shade that adds the most romantic flush to your cheeks. The other is Almeria which was limited edition last Christmas, but its sort of a rusty cranberry shade that I love to wear with a nude lip and big winged liner.

Highlighters:
DSCN1926
The MAC mineralized skin finishes are really beautiful and natural highlighters, sort of a barely there subtle sheen to the skin. You can apply them all over the skin, just the cheek bones and the other high points of your face or really wherever you want.

The Becca Shimmering Skin Perfectors are quite the opposite, they take “strobbing” to a whole new level. These will give you JLo glow for sure! very finely milled, high shine and pigmentation, I only apply these to the high points of my face and very lightly, but it gives the most incredible glow. I like to use them as eye shadow as well, because otherwise I’ll never hit pan before they go out of date.

Finally the MAC cream colour bases are a great in between, they’re not so subtle you can’t tell they’re on your skin, but they’re not too over the top either. The cream formulation allows for easy blending and a long lasting shine!

Eyes
Shadows:
DSCN1931
As far as palettes go, you really can’t go wrong with the Urban Decay Naked palettes, they have an incredible range of shades to suit everyones preferences and skin tones. The shadows are buttery and blend well, they last all day and there’s enough colours to create any kind of look imaginable ( especially now that they brought out the new smoky palette).

For individual shadows MAC is the cream of the crop. You can pick and choose your own shades to make your own palette, or just buy the little pots if you’re the kind of person who wears the same look every day. They have an incredible range of colours for all the different looks you could want to create, the pigmentation and formulation of all their different finishes is amazing. The first high-end eye shadow I ever bought was MAC All That Glitters and I’ve probably re-purchased it 15 time since then!

Liquid liner:
DSCN1943
I know this is not a shock to anyone, so I won’t ramble. The Kat Von D tattoo liner in Trooper is the best liquid liner in the world, hands down.

Kohl liners:
DSCN1944
MAC makes such lovely pencil liners, they’re soft enough that you can smudge them out on your upper lash line, but they’re also long lasting enough to stay on your water line all day long!
DSCN1947
Left is MAC Coffee, right is MAC Teddy

Mascara:
DSCN1950
I don’t really see the point in paying full price for high-end mascara’s but if I had to pick one it would be the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. This stuff separates and adds length and volume without being too clumpy! It gives the effect of false lashes without having to fuss with real ones, my only beef with this is that it flakes after the first few uses.

Brows:
DSCN1941
Anastasia Dip Brow in Soft Brown is the only brow product I’ve ever found that stays in place and looks natural. You have to be very light handed when applying this, but once you get the hang of it your brows will never have looked better! Not to mention you need to tiniest amount so the pot will last you forever!

Lips
Lipsticks:
DSCN1953
This was also a difficult category to choose for, but again MAC and NARS came out on top.
I don’t think I need to ramble too much about MAC lipsticks because at least every woman I know owns at least one. They are great for every finish, glossy, matte, creamy, bold it doesn’t matter, MAC has your back. Obviously depending on the finish they don’t all have the same wear time, but they all have great shades, finishes and they smell like vanilla which is always a bonus. I do find that some of the matte shades can be quite drying, but that goes with any brand as well.

NARS Audacious lipsticks are a fairly new launch but they quickly climbed the favourites ladder for me. The formulation of these is amazing, it’s creamy and light but not so much that it slides all over your face. The staying power is great, and the range of colours is incredible! Again the packaging of the NARS lipsticks is a lot more sophisticated and luxurious, and they also all have girls names which i think is just adorable.
DSCN1956

Tools
DSCN1957
Last but not least are tools!
I recently discovered the Beauty Blender (late to the party, I know), and I am in love. This little sponge applies any foundation or concealer without it looking too much, it absorbs any excess product which doesn’t allow you to apply too much to your skin. It blends out products like a dream, leaving your skin looking airbrushed with no harsh lines or bunching product.

As far as brushes go you can’t go wrong with MAC or Sephora professional line. all synthetic so they’re easy to clean, and super soft so they won’t aggravate your eyes or skin at all!

That’s it for today my loves, time for Harry Potter and some peppermint tea!

Until next time,
xoxo
